Golfing in Pebble Beach

Friday, March 2nd, 2012

Don’t be misled by the title, the FoodLover did not golf at the famous Pebble Beach Golf Links. There are eight private and public golf courses in Pebble Beach, an unincorporated community in Monterey County, California. Poppy Hills Golf Course is one of the home courses of NCGA (North California Golf Association) and has hosted many prominent tournaments including the PGA Tour’s AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am from 1991-2009.

Green fee there is usually US$200 per round but Edwin got us a great Groupon deal at US$55. When Wallace and I arrived after a two-hour drive from the Bay area, Edwin and Patrick were already relaxing in the Porter’s Grill. Our table had clear view of the 1st tee and 18th green. The two-page menu was pretty simple and mostly salad and sandwiches. The food was not bad, just like what you would get at most country style restaurants across the States.

The golf course was beautiful and well maintained. I would spend $75 to join the NCGA and come back to play again at the US$55 membership rate.
