中西合璧 – Sino Restaurant & Lounge

Tuesday, October 16th, 2012

The FoodLover couple happened to be near Santana Row in San Jose at lunch time and saw this western style Chinese restaurant – Sino Restaurant & Lounge. The dim sum at the next table didn’t look too appetizing, so we ordered lunch sets ($19).

My green salad was appetizing with vinaigrette dressing. Mrs. Foodlover thought her Chicken & Cron Soup was OK. Main dishes were BAD. They processed the meat so much that texture of beef was almost the same as the chicken. Mango pudding was so so and the Creme Brulee was too sweet for my taste.

For $19, I can think of many much better places to have lunch in the bay area.

Burnt Noodle – Bamboo Garden 竹林軒(山景城)

Thursday, October 4th, 2012

The FoodLover used to take the kids to Shanghai Family Restaurant 上海喬家柵 in Mountain View for their favorite potstickers until it moved to Cupertino two years ago. In its place was another Shanghainese restaurant – Bamboo Garden 竹林軒. The FoodLover and Roger wanted to have a simple lunch and ordered a noodle dish with two dim-sums.

Shanghai Style Stir Fried Noodle (上海粗炒麵) looked good. While the noodle was alright, it had strong taste of burnt food. Apparently, something was burned (炒濃) in the wok and the cook did not clean it thoroughly before frying this noodle. Fortunately, the Steamed Pork Bun (小籠包) and Pan Fried Bun (生煎包) were not burnt.

The FoodLover will probably not go back to this restaurant before it changes its name again.
